Specialty & Custom Detailing in Port Washington, NY
Paint protection film, brake caliper color kits and one-off jobs that fall outside the standard menu.
Not every job fits neatly into a package. Some vehicles want protection beyond what a coating gives, some owners want a specific finish on a specific part, and some come in with something we have not been asked before. All of it starts with a conversation rather than a menu price.
Below is the specialty work that comes up regularly. If yours is not on the list, call and describe it - the answer is usually yes.
Paint protection film
Paint protection film is a clear urethane layer applied over the paint. Where a ceramic coating is thin and chemical, PPF is thick and physical - it takes stone chips, scuffs and light scratches on itself rather than passing them through to the paint underneath.
It is the right choice for the high-impact areas: front bumper, hood, mirror caps, rocker panels, and the leading edges of doors. A common approach is a partial front-end kit for physical protection, with a ceramic coating over the rest of the car for easier washing and UV protection. The two are complementary rather than competing.
PPF is not invisible. Installations are visible up close under the right light, and edge placement is where careful work shows. Quality films self-heal minor scuffs under warmth and resist yellowing over time.
Brake caliper color kits
Painting brake calipers is one of the few small changes that meaningfully changes how a car looks from every angle. Done properly, calipers are removed or masked, prepped down to clean metal, and coated with high-temperature paints rated for the heat brakes generate and the salt they see through a Long Island winter.
Done badly it flakes off the first spring. The failure mode is always preparation - painting over grease, brake dust or existing corrosion, or using paint that is not rated for the temperature. Preparation and product choice are what separate a caliper job that lasts from one that does not.
Other custom work
If you have something else in mind - restoring a specific trim piece, deep-cleaning something unusual, prepping a vehicle for a show or photoshoot, or a one-off request - call and describe it. If it is not something we can help with we will say so, and if it is, we will talk you through what is involved.
What this typically involves
The exact steps depend on the vehicle and its condition. A specialty & custom work commonly involves:
- Paint protection film on front-end or full vehicle
- Brake caliper color kit application
- Trim restoration and refinishing
- Show and photoshoot preparation
- Consultation on the right combination of protection for your vehicle
Common questions
How much does paint protection film cost?
It depends on how much of the car is being covered - a partial front-end kit and a full-vehicle wrap sit at very different price points, and film choice matters too. Call or text with the vehicle and what you want protected and we will work through a specific quote.
Can PPF and ceramic coating be combined?
Yes, and often they are. PPF protects high-impact areas from physical damage; a coating over the rest of the car gives easier washing and UV protection. Neither replaces the other.
Will painted brake calipers hold up through a winter?
Done properly, yes. The failure mode is skipped preparation - painting over grease or existing corrosion, or using paint that is not rated for brake temperatures. Preparation and the right product are what make caliper work last.
